Why leave behind a graveyard of half-filled canisters when you can combine them all with a gadget that weighs less than a penny? Born on the PCT in 2023, the Alpenflow lets you swap, share, or consolidate fuel like a pro. Borrow from a hiker box, split with a buddy, or finally finish off that pile of canisters in your garage. You can also portion off small amounts of fuel into a small empty canister so that you aren't carrying more than you need for short trips.

  1. Warm your donor canister by placing it in the sun, and cool your recipient canister by putting it in a freezer to create a pressure differential. Never use an oven or flame!

  2. The larger the temperature difference, the faster the transfer will occur

  3. IMPORTANT: Place Warm donor Canister on TOP, Cool recipient canister on BOTTOM (no threading needed). The device itself can face either direction.

  4. Press down hard for 5 - 10 seconds until the hissing/transfer noise stops. A small amount of loss from the sides is expected and ok. Always transfer fuel in a well-ventilated area outside.

  5. Repeat as needed. Near-empty canisters may take multiple rounds. Use a scale to monitor your transferred amount. Never overfill a canister beyond the original weight, or damage or injury could occur.
  • To mitigate the risk of liquid butane expanding when canister is heated, never fill beyond the original fill level (~80%)

  • Fuel canisters do not meet D.O.T. requirements for commercial transportation after refilling (a.k.a. it’s illegal for businesses to transport refilled canisters)

  • Never use a flame or oven to heat canisters

  • Never fill canisters with pure propane, and only transfer “winter mix” fuel (70% butane / 30% propane) into canisters rated for winter mix fuel.
